Recording of 'Other Medicines'

There have been some recent incidents within the Trusts where transplant patients have been admitted to the hospital but their immunosuppressant medication has been missed on their admission clerking, potentially due to the fact that they are not included on the summary care record as they are supplied from the specialist centre via Homecare.

The concern is two-fold, that they are being missed off the clerking when the patient is admitted to hospital if the SCR is being used as the primary reference source, but also that GPs are not being notified of potential interactions when prescribing other drugs.

This would also apply to the biologics etc. that are supplied through Homecare and some other medication e.g. clozapine, methadone etc.

To record other medication:

This medication will then appear of the patients Summary Care Record.
If you require any additional help with this, please contact the Medicines Optimisation Teams pharmacy technician supporting your surgery.

Treatment of Dry Eye Prescribing Guidelines

Please find the agreed Dry Eye Prescribing Guidelines here.

The cost effective choices for dry eyes is available on request. The list has not been published as the price of products continually changes. You will be notified of the most cost effective choice through Scriptswitch when prescribing. If you do not have ScriptSwitch on your computer speak with your Practice Manager.

If you require any additional clarification please contact the Medicines Management Team.

Website update

We are delighted to be working with digidoda, also based at Wrest Park, on the new Medicines Management website. Following a lot of scoping we are now at the design stage and we are still on target for a June launch.

Part of the content will be aimed at GP practices in particular – so if you have any suggestions for resources please let the team know.

Care Home Team Update

The current Bedfordshire CCG best practice guidance on Covert administration of medication (adults) has been extended until April 2020. This guidance is currently under review and will be launched as a joint Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) document following the merger of the three CCGs.
